MEN IN TIGHT’S, EVERYBODY’S IN BUT ANDY

The Republican Party has delayed the handing in of their petitions for 2 weeks and it looks like they may delay a few more days.  The best guess is early next week when they introduce Andy Jarosh as a candidate for Commissioner of Finance, opposing Michele Madigan, which will fill their ticket, Andy is probably away on vacation, hence the wait.  I have been told the first delay was because they couldn’t find any one to oppose Franck.  After getting turned down 22 times according to my source, the Party finally talked John Arpei into contesting Franck for his seat.  It looks like the same scenario for someone to accept a chance to run against Madigan.  Republican sources have said that the same number (in the 20’s) had turned down the call to run for Mayor, Accounts and Finance, it seems Supervisor and DPS were easy to fill, especially  since Dick Wirth promised to Primary any Republican candidate for DPS unless they chose him.  The Republican’s, of course, want to look united so they gave the nod to him.  Similarly, the position of Mayor was proposed to so many people who declined it, that they finally had to throw their support to Sutton, whom they didn’t really want in that slot.

Supervisors were an easier task.  Matt Veitch is considered a shoo in and rightly so.  Peter Martin enters the race against Ken Ivins, Ivins enters the race carrying so much baggage from his City seat, that after 2 years of $0.00 tax increases he was still soundly defeated by an unknown Madigan, who has done some very good things with the Finance Department, the best of which is updating the department and putting income and expenses of every department and even the sub categories of every dept on line, that’s transparency.

Martin will give Ivins a run for his money especially since Ivin’s theme seems to be that more Republicans should be on the BOS to get more things done.  We would like to remind Ivins that there are 19 Republicans, 3 Democrats and 1 Independence party members seated on the Board now.  How many more Republicans are needed to get things done?  I think a good mix would be a Democrat and Republican representing the City.

Bill McTygue versus Skip Scirocco should be an interesting race also.  Will Saratogian’s say Scirocco’s number is up?  I feel the question will come down to, other than the foolish deed of selling water to Wilton to fulfill the Mayor’s pledge to Dave Harper (the attorney for the developer) that a housing development outside the City will get our water is this:  Is Saratoga Springs a better looking City now than it was before he took over?  Infrastructure cannot be seen, so we should know what has been done to improve that.  One other thing, when a project like building a condo etc. is finished, the developer is supposed to grade the street that they wrecked or cracked and repave it, all at no expense to the City or in other words we the taxpayers, I hope this has been the norm.

  1. As a Republican, I am embarrassed. Where has the party gone? The clowns in Ballston Spa are no better.
Shawna Sutton is a joke. I really like Skip as a person, but I can not vote for him again. He is asleep at the wheel and has been for several years.
Matt Veitch may be the only Republican standing in the end.

  2. Does the city look better since Skip has been in office? NO! This city has never looked so bad, NEVER! Congress Park is a disgrace. Scum in all the ponds, grass that's almost turning to hay, the Spirit of Life not even filled, & worst of all Spit & Spat! I pity the poor couples planning a wedding ceremony there. Don't get me started on how trashy Broadway looks or the millions of flags flying on every pole downtown. Then there's his lack of management skills, the dpw workers do whatever the hell they want. To top his wonderful ability to perform his job, he has two pending legal actions filed against him by his only female supervisor as reported in the Saratogian. Bill McTygue will have his work cut out for him, cleaning up after Skippy, but he the guy that can do it!

  4. Matheisen is the worst Public Safety commissioner we have had. I am born and raised in Saratoga for 63 years and graduated with this guy. I am sorry to say that he has no common sense.. he has done nothing about reigning in the Police Department and the hundreds of thousands of dollars in overtime. He and Madigan are spending all the taxpayers money... instead of giving back to the taxpayers with the 1.3 million dollars in excess funds that Madigan has, she and Matheisen has hired more police officers after all we went through to downsize the Dept. Everyone knows it is a revolving door.. the cops get in 20 years and then retire and collect a pension while they go on to other careers all the time collecting their pension on the taxpayers money.. I know of 3 personal friends that are already doing it and a perfect example is Cole who just retired and stated he is young enough to go on to another career..but didn't state he is going to bilk the taxpayers.. Matheisen doesn't get it!! instead he goes after the law abiding innocent citizens with his stupid laws and steps all over our 2nd amendment rights.. He also wasted time trying to change the closing time that had already been tried and turned down.. He doesn't care about the students and graduates who can't get a full time job because of the economy and have to fill in as waitresses and bartenders trying to keep their head above water with their school loans..AND he calls the town TOXIC and dangerous late at night when we have the safest town in the entire state..not very good for the visiting tourists that we depend on for our revenue...Not to mention how he came out against all the motorcyclists when he took office... Funny...Lake George loves them and the reveue they bring and publicly thanks them..Not Mathesisen...He is terrible and TOXIC for our town... He needs to go and FAST!! and I hope Madigan is close behind... The old saying is true...Once taxes go up they never come down...even when she had a huge surplus she doesn't even think of the poor taxpayer.. My taxes have more than Quadrupled the past 15 years.. We never had Deputies until the Democrats and Klotz took office and now we pay out about 70.000 a year to each of these people not including benefits...and pensions etc....and what does she and Matheisen do but give them a raise of about 2500 a year to each of them when they are already making twice as much as any comparable job in the private sector... Why doesn't Matheisen try and implement a Nighborhood watch program instead of hiring 2 new Police officers who just waste their time.. I had 2 cops and a plain clothes man follow one of my best tenants home which is only 2 blocks off Broadway..He works till 4 am and doesn't drink and they follow him home and search his car because they profiled him.. I have a Policeman who lives in my Apartment house and they still unjustly searched this guy's car and didn't arrest him for anything because he was clean and just going home to bed.. they should have been out trying to thwart some fo the rapes that have been occuring around our town.. instead of making a spectacle at 4:30 am outside my Apartment house.. Let's keep our fingers crossed that this guy Matheisen is sent Packing after the next election! We need someone who isn't going to infringe on he rights of innocent law abiding citizens...

  5. It's sad that all the Democrats have to offer for Mayor is Yepsen.. She is the biggest DO NOTHING politcian I have ever seen. She is already a loser to McDonald and in her 4 terms as Supervisor she had done literally NOTHING! Can anyone name one thing she has done???... she always waits until the issue at hand is already decided before she can make up her mind which way to go... just as in the case of the County Nursing home.. She waited until it was already decided and waited to see what the Public's reaction to it was and then came out in favor of not selling it... We need someone who is Pro-active and can make a decision based on her convictions and not what other people think before making a decision... Also anyone endorsed by the second worst mayor(Klotz) we have ever had has got to tell you that she is BAD! He also endorsed the Worst mayor we have ever had which was Valerie Keene.. We all know what happened there.. she was not only an inexperienced and uninformed Joke but turned out to be power hungry.. We don't need another one like that and that is what Yepsen will be.. Sutton is no bargain either!!! We are in for a bad couple of years ahead with this mayoral race!!

  6. Regarding that Senate race, we must remember one thing. McDonald was a very popular and decent person and backed by almost all Republicans. That being said, Yepsen carried Saratoga Springs beating McDonald and if I am not mistaken beat him in his hometown. I don't think there is a politician alive that makes a decision on conviction over what people think. Roy McDonald did and look what happened to him.

  7. Someone anonymously complained that Yepsen found out what the public wanted to do about the maplewood nursing home, and then came out in favor of not selling it. Isn't that called listening to her constituents? Isn't that what she promised to do if elected?

    1. Maplewood Manor is a tricky horse. People want to keep it open because it is part of our county; if someone had a loved one there then it becomes part of you and your family. However, the way the State reimburses the County for Medicare patients is disgusting. The County gets paid back on what they were getting in 1980, now think about how expenses and salaries have increased since then and why the County has to use so much of our tax dollars to make up the difference. If every resident was self paying, this would not be a problem but that is unrealistic and not fair to those who need nursing home services and can’t afford it. Maplewood Manor needs to be sold. Albany County is now in the midst of creating a committee to get bids in order to sell that one. In a few years you will find that no county will own and run a nursing home. This is sad, but a sign of these times. When I was growing up, it was said that by now everything would be nice, easy and not so complicated and oh yeh, we would only be working a 4 day work week.

  8. Your four day a week comment is funny. If companies did that we might have a better economy and more employment.
