Yes, we are having fun on our vacation. We are staying overnight and I have a chance to read the home town paper and was I surprised by an article or two.
First of all, I spoke with a friend who knows such things and it seemed that a large group of Republicans switched Party’s for this election and joined the Independence Party, thereby giving Sutton and Arpei the number required to force a primary in September.
I still think that this primary will be a good litmus test for the general election. The primary vote will indicate how many votes the 2 candidates get then deduct at least the 58 of the Republican who switched to guarantee they got the ballot (as they would have voted Republican anyway).
Now comes the money part. According to the Saratogian, Yepsen after expenses leaves her with $17,724 balance, “Most of Yepsen’s contributions come in $100 or $200 increments. She reported 106 contributions Monday and said the number was doubled after Friday’s fundraiser.”
Sutton on the other hand has not had a fundraiser to date and it is starting to look like another big money campaign money matter, as in the momentous misstep during the 2005 campaign that led to a Democratic sweep. The Republican candidate was having $500.00 a plate dinner fundraisers and Sutton looks to be doing quite the same thing minus the dinners. Sutton’s donors and amounts of money given so far are:

Kathleen Smith - $1,000.00
Amy Smith - $500.00

So, Sutton has 10 donors plus the Party’s money giving her $9,400.00. Think of a few donors giving thousands of dollars against many donors giving smaller amounts and you may say to yourself who is for the people over big money?
There is no campaign filing page for Arpei yet.
If what you write is accurate, then Sutton should be thrown off the independent ballot for voter fraud.
ReplyDeleteIf one changes party registration after October 11, 2012, between elections, it does not become effective until six days after the next general election in November 2013.
If any Republicans signed the independent petitions and changed their party registration after October 11, 2012 the whole page of signatures is invalid, as per Harris Beach and Mayor Johnson. Sutton always was for voter suppression, because she knows what is best for all of us underlings.
Hello, as I said, I spoke with a friend who knows about these things or should know, so when I get back; I'll check it out for myself. Everything you say is true, however, one of the strong reasons why I believe that they may even have done this before last years election is so they (Republicans) could have the numbers this year because of the screw up of Wirth's campaign and problems in 2011. I'm sure the Mayor offered free legal advice on what and when things should be done to avoid the error and have enough Republicans on board for this election.
DeleteJust follow the money and you can see why these City Republicans, namely Sutton and Scirocco, are obligated to represent the County's GOP interest, the builder's interest and the outside special interest all before any consideration of what's best for the City or it's taxpayers.

By the way, Kathleen Smith is Sutton's sister-in-law, Amy Smith is her niece and Ann Hiller (Ga.) ran Johnson's 3 campaigns.

ReplyDeleteRanting, please! Information, yes. It is customary for businesses to donate to both Parties’, just look at past elections, this way they do not offend customers in playing favorites. In the next filing we will see the businesses that donated to Sutton; this initial filing was only rich relatives and friends.

ReplyDeleteIt's not unusual for some to contribute to both candidates so they can still get political favors no matter who wins. So I wouldn't hold much stock into who give who what and how much. That little bit of info could be the subject of a future blog post Captain. ;) Just sayin'

Actually, no they aren't they have got a number of republicans to switch there affiliation to independence voters and are trying to steal the primary. Just ask the BOE for a list if newly registered independence voters and cross reference that with a list of republican voter for last year. The Republican Party should be ashamed of themselves but that would require a conscious. Voters should have a choice and when one party plays dirty we all lose!
