THE DUMB BUNNIES

Some think I haven’t written because I am licking my wounds over the last election, nothing could be further from the truth.  After the election “You Asked For IT You Got IT” said it all.  It’s not that I don’t see what is going on here in Saratoga, it’s just I don’t care anymore.
Saratoga Springs has one of the lowest voter turnouts in the State.  Most of the so called” Native Saratogians” could care less about what is happening in their own City.  Let’s look at a few items.

The biggest political beach ball since the Casino is the City Center parking puke of a garage.  Now we won’t say who has her head up the wazoo of Mark Baker but I’ll give you a clue, she sits to the right of the Mayor.

This woman should have a blood alcohol test before entering the Council Chambers.  She not only looks buzzed at the table but totally disregards citizen rights.  I watched in horror yes horror, oh, the humanity, the meeting on 3/15  as the public hearing for the lease took place.  I even had to go back and watch the dialogue of the hearing again, Madigan had berated a citizen because she (the citizen) wanted to talk about finances and here was where the fun began for everybody except the lady at the mic.  Madigan went off yelling her that she was not to speak of finances (this was part of the lease) and Madigan also screamed ‘it is my public hearing and I’ll run it my way’, clearly she hasn’t seen the light of day between the vino and the wazoos, but it was doubly disgusting that an elected official would treat a citizen in such a way, she is publicly, an embarrassment as representative of the City.  Many of Madigan’s friends and owners of Broadway businesses paraded to the Mic decrying the benefits of a multi-use concept.  Ms. Sellers would be likely to say, ‘burn the non-conformers and all non-Native Saratogians’.

We must look at the view of the DBA (Downtown Business Assoc.) and Chamber of Commerce as one of chicken crap.  These entities do not want anyone shopping off Broadway, period, whether it helps the economy, creates jobs or any businesses benefitting due to off Broadway business.  The DBA & Chamber should give free memberships to those businesses off Broadway or the City should take away their higher tax rate.  Today, it looks like the vote for the City Center to get its way may be a reality (thanks to wobbly Madigan & the wide eyed Scirocco, everyone is saying that Matheisen is the wild card and is still evaluating which I sincerely hope he is doing.  Commissioner, it is not a law that you have to vote with Madigan & Scirocco, keep an open mind and make the right decision to go into the RFP’s a little more (selfish me).  Also worth noting, Madigan’s appointment to the High Rock Park Technical Review Committee was none other than Larry Novick (a Bonaccio front man, Scirocco’s pick, Rod Sutton and Tom Roohan from the City Center plus the other picks.  Novick, Sutton and Roohan have nothing in common, right?

You know you are in trouble as a citizen when a majority (hopefully not) would settle for $50,000.00 per year when with a multi-use garage you could have a business 1st floor that could generate about $2 million dollars a year, create new jobs and tie Broadway into the High Rock area, now that is great leadership from a Council, again check the blood alcohol level.

The Skipster, what to say about him?  The citizens should chip in and purchase a new pair of glasses for him, it looks like he can’t read or see what goes on around him.  If you were at or watched the Council meeting from March 1st Mark Lawton (a man who knows and can interpret the Charter) informed Skip that he was not following the Charter because he should be presenting his water & sewer plan at budget time instead of in March.  Scirocco admitted he didn’t know this and then corrected himself with a shaky excuse.  This is scary because by not knowing your Constitution (Charter) you are bound to fail.

Wait, according to Skip, if you go against the Charter just change it to suit your needs.  Point in case, Donna Buckley, Deputy Commissioner and puppet master of Skip hires a Director of Public Works then fires him when a Veitch family member wants the job, only he can’t pass the exam.  So what does Donna & Skip do?  Why create a new position of Business Manager.  Who was taking care of business for the Department all these years?  Now that we have a Business Manager the department’s employees whose duties are going to this new position should have their salaries reduced.  Skip, you’re a nice guy I guess but you are way out of your league in your position as Commissioner as you were as Animal Control Officer (PC for Dog Catcher).

This is what happens when apathy sets in at election time.  Most people don’t care enough about what goes on in their City but boy can they complain about everything and a case of electing the good old boy’s choices (yes it still runs rampant in Saratoga, although the old guard are dropping away quietly)

  1. Great Post. So sad that the commission and the council got duped by Skipy and Buckley in this business manager position.

  4. Captain America is back and couldn't be more Right-on!! For those city Democrats who care, Commissioner Madigan has been busy (to busy) representing the interests of the GOP "status quo". Saratogian's are simply asking why is she so opposed good ideas for mixed use urban design along High Rock Avenue and a better plan for development that actually pays the city a dividen in nearly 2 million in annual taxes? Why is she opposed to the usual Democratic progressive ideas for good civic design and space utilization that favors people, small shop retail, affordable housing and pedestrian activity over the idea of building a single purpose, stand alone concrete monolith in the form of a 5-story ugly parking garage? The reason is simple. Michele Madigan is a DINO!! (Democrat In Name Only.) Not only is she carrying water for the GOP's Ugly Parking Garage but she also seems content in sticking it to the Morgan Street rrsidential neighborhood with her support for the GOP sponsored idea and zoning changes for hospital sprall into an otherwise quiet residential neighborhood. For those paying any attention to local politics, Michele Madigan has been playing under the covers with the local GOP "status-quo" for some time now and getting away with it. Again, she's a DINO who's working against the principles of what the Democtrats in this city should be standing for. She supports out-of-date ideas for a stand- alone parking garage and she opposes the "people" city residents trying to protect their residential neighborhood. Oh, and let's not forget, by her out-of-control tyraid at the last City Council meeting, she's apparently against the public's right to free speach at city council public hearings.
Thank you Captain for your commentary and exposing this fraud!

    1. Remember this information. Madigan and other Democrats regularly met in Tom Roohan's offices before the last election. It is said that if Madigan would go along with most Republican issues the Party would not run anybody against her. Also remember that the Republican Party would not endorse a qualified candidate experienced in finance over last summer at a Committee meeting. Yes, Republican Ken Ivins ran but without the Party's support and he only ran (not only to win) but because the Republican old timers would not run anyone against Madigan. It is darn lucky that Madigan has one of the best financial person in the City as her Deputy Commissioner, Lynn Bachner or she would be lost. You can now see why she and Skippy are tied at the waist. Also, watch Skip at a meeting, he looks like a deer in headlights, he can't figure out what anyone is talking about.

    1. Ms. Sellers is a woman who sits in the 1st row in the aisle seat (you can see her if you watch a meeting). She tows the Republican horse cart (Republican-Democrat are the much the same in the political world). She espouses that the only good Saratogian's are the ones born here, the rest don't know anything. Eh, not earth shattering but an amusing idea.

  6. Commissioner Madigan specifically stated in her comments at the meeting that this was her public hearing and she would run it the way she wanted to. In her comments on another blog, SaratogaSpringspolitics.com, she admits that the meeting was mis-managed. “Hopefully, the next Public Hearing on this topic will be managed better.” Commissioner Madigan just admitted that she mis-managed the meeting. OUCH!

    1. Ms. Madigan never in the past or now is capable to run or manage a meeting. She is too self absorbed with herself to let any citizen make a point that doesn't agree with her's. She's bad to the bone.

  7. Captain, may I suggest you investigate the rumor regarding Marilyn Rivers filing w/Dept. of Health about the health of DPW workers @ the city garage. I've heard from reliable sources that because of mold, large amounts of pigeon droppings & no air circulation etc. employees are complaining of headaches, some even going to the ER.

Thanks, although I am still disgusted that the Three amigos are still banded together and the Republican and Democrat want to be kingpins don't care. I hear that as predicted a month ago the vote will be 3-2 in favor of Mark Baker's version of the parking garage and he receives a very large bonus for getting the deal done. As one of the highest paid City employees and given a car to use for personal use the bonus should go to the City's non-profits. The loss of revenue from this project will further damage the City and will truly show the area that Saratoga is a 'taxation without representation City'.

  9. Rod's dad was good buddies with Jim Foley, Republican chairman of Saratoga County. Foley took ill, the deal was made for Rod to take over Foley's insurance business. Rod's dad was also a commissioner here in the city. He appointed his son Rod to work in his own department in city hall. That didn't work out, because of public outcry of nepotism. The insurance deal proved to be the beginning of a multi million dollar a year career. Now Rod is being prepped for a run for office on the Republican ticket. The IDA thing was a part of the plan.

  11. Her behavior is an embarrassment, she does have to be the one that is front and center even at the cost of not listening to and even arguing at meetings with her constituents. Her attacking behavior shows this at every meeting. However, I think this is more a combination of things, many and I say many know she is wobbly at meetings (this could be just nerves), she is told what to do by those high up in the Republican Party and she has a lap dog no pun intended in Skip who can’t seem to make a move without an electrode zap at meetings by Madigan. As I said before, the vote for this Baker’s garage plan has been decided months ago. This is backdoor politics at its best and whoever votes for it should be watched for what they receive. FOLLOW THE MONEY, DAMN THE CITIZENS WISHES.

  12. Captain, why doesn't this Council think before blabbing? Remember what pre 80's looked like in Saratoga? Since then we were blessed with forward thinking politicians (most of them anyways). Saratoga is a nice City today except maybe too nice. The citizens can't enjoy our City or its attractions without fighting large crowds or our downtown in the summer but I guess that's a trade off. This Council is shooting themselves in the foot and every taxpayer's also. The Albany Convention Center is coming so is one Schenectady and before too much longer we'll have a small one located at the Racino with FREE PARKING. This Council should be prepared for what would happen if we lose Convention days. Why have an ugly, free standing parking garage just because the DBA and Chamber doesn't want any shoppers pulled from Broadway? A multi use facility would be a pro action vote in case we face a down turn, a stand alone garage will leave us with a lot of concrete.

    1. You have to realize that the Republican majority on this Council (Madigan, Scirocco & Matheisen) have huge debts to pay. Tom Roohan is calling in some chits as is John Witt & Bonaccio. The Mighty 3 have to give Baker what he wants with no questions asked. The multi-use consideration does not apply to these people. Hey, what about the article in the Saratoga Today about Bonaccio's Newman affordable housing units on Lake Ave., starting at $2,000.00? If your kids grew up here or those who work here want to live in Saratoga it is a shame they can't come here. Saratoga Springs has one of the highest senior populations in the State, over 60% of those moving here are retired and can afford to live here. Again, the population of Saratoga in the late 80's was around 28,000 and today the population is around 28,000. Please don't get me wrong my parents are senior citizens but the population is stagnate because of this. The City population should be growing with the housing market we have but the younger generation can't afford it. We are becoming the Ft. Meyers of the North. By the way, the Joker who put the letter to the editor in today's Saratogian about it is such a lie about Madigan mistreating a speaker and turning the story around that speaker is a trouble maker, follow this link, click on the last Council meeting then public hearing and you can see how our Finance Commissioner really treats citizens of Saratoga. http://saratogaspringsny.swagit.com/city-council/

    1. This is an idea that most Saratogians are pathologically incapable of processing. We suffer from a blithe glacialism, occasionally cursing the winds that carry our demise, but mostly hoping against hope and pretending that evidence of things seen and felt is either faulty or fleeting. It is not. Saratoga is Corrupt and the comptroller’s office knows it.

The only Republican is Skippy Scirocco.
But you are correct about Tommy Roohan and also Mr Sutton, the new candidate for republican office in the next election. They will give Mr Baker the votes he needs for his Parking Palace.

He was very qualified but because Skip cried and swore he wouldn't vote Republican because he got along very well with Madigan we can consider her a good Republican.

  19. Well, Madigan gave away the vote results at the agenda meeting today. She said she will motion that the Council give Mark Baker his Concrete Jungle and that Skippy will give his opinion on what could be done with the left over 1/3 of the land. So my little ones, Madigan & Scirocco are in the sack together. Let's hope Matheisen goes against form and doesn't side with these stooges, but don't bet the farm on it. I still say the vote will be 3-2 for Baker.

  21. I know that you dislike the three amigos but, maybe, here is an insight into how it works. I assume you are not married, or if you are, your wife does not control the checkbook. Here is how I know that. You do not understand the truly twisted relationship between the three Amigos.
Skippy and Chrissy have to ask their wife, the commissioner of finance, if they can have any money; but Madagain, the wife, is well a little cranky. Like any good wife she does not want to give them any money to say, support something that she does not. Chrissy and Skippy know who wears the pants in the City of Saratoga Springs. It is not them by the way.
The two largest budgets by departments are Public Safety and DPW. The commissioners submit the budgets they think they want but what gets returned is based upon what they have supported for her in the past year. Follow the Money. She has even threatened to alter the budget mid-year if the two amigos step out of line.
You are stuck with this arrangement until Madagain goes, and finance adheres to the charter. What is supposed to happen is the departments supply the budget and the finance office figures out how to pay for what they need. Madagain has flipped this around, controls the money, and is not afraid to say so and use it like a tyrant, in spite of what the charter says. Look at how she berates citizens at the public comment periods. Imagine what she does to the meek Chrissy and the mild Skippy, behind closed doors.

They are taking in work for IBM to keep going. I doubt they would close, the best bet is they would sell at rock bottom price to another foreign entity who can screw us out of more tax money. Since Saratoga is now known in the Capital District as the unfriendliest City to do business in watch how many businesses move to Ballston Spa and areas outside of Saratoga.
