Let’s face it, elections are popularity contests and not
how well the Commissioners do their jobs.
This was evidenced by this past City election where only
about 30% of registered voters cast ballots which is most embarrassing when
there is so much at stake here. OK maybe
Madigan, despite her meanness and condescending attitude towards citizens at
Council meetings had a record to win. Scirocco
and Matheisen should have lost by a landslide.
Remember Matheisen was a winner by about 59 votes last election and his record
and actions of not letting citizens know about crimes that affect all of us is
most troubling.
Matheisen honestly doesn’t know how to oversee a Public
Safety Department, despite winning the Collimer lot lawsuit that was dismissed
by the judge, its fate is still in the hands of the State. His stance on the Saratoga National project
also defies public opinion of a majority of citizens, most I should say with a
few opposing and the green belt people who pick and choose what stays green, he
is also against the multi - use project of the City/City Center parking garage
siding with Madigan & Scirocco to put up a dreary ugly building which will
not enhance the area but will take away from tying in Broadway with Lake Ave.
and High Rock businesses. This shortsightedness
is what has put Saratoga in a downward spiral over the last 4 years.
Scirocco’s win is also a mystery. He gave away over one million dollars to 1
developer without letting or getting permission from the Council (it may be
that the 3 amigos already knew about this and ok’d it) and after he couldn’t
collect the million he had the law changed to eliminate this revenue stream
with the cockamamie excuse that he was limited with the use of the money, he
then holds a public hearing and then motions at the same meeting to eliminate
the water hookup fee causing a large increase to every home owner’s water bill
(guess who voted for his motion)? The question to ask is why not just change
the usage of the fee to go into infrastructure?
Madigan said we have enough money to cover infrastructure costs and we
didn’t need the hookup fees. Ms.
Madigan, why not decrease taxes if we have too much money?
Scirocco will soon bring before the Council the
need to reimburse several contractors to the tune of another million dollars
for charging them hookup fees AFTER he changed the law. Grass, leaf, and snow
removal have been so bad since he took over that many, many people are
complaining, yet they voted him in office again.
Why when he was the dog catcher for 30 some
years it is said that he couldn’t tell the difference between a French Poodle
and a German Shepard because he thought the Shepard was barking in French.
Then there is the little item of Skip putting new water
& sewer lines and a new paved road on his own street when no one complained
about any problems.
Let’s not forget his work on Rt. 50 by Price Chopper, work
done, new paved roads, ready to clean up and get it opened when he decides to
rip it apart and install larger water lines.
This should have been thought out and done while the whole area was dug
up, not after the job was completed. How
much money did we spend on this error?
However, don’t worry, all this means nothing to you, you
voted him & Matheisen back into office.
City boys, born (Matheisen says he was 3 when he moved here) and raised here, that matters more than political brain
power, now I am not saying that the 2 are stupid, Skip was a great dog catcher
and Matheisen is a good Dentist but both make lousy legislators.
This is a beginning, there will be more but let’s face it,
you don’t care, and our elections are like the Miss USA Pageant. A popularity
contest, not one of putting knowledgeable people in office that understand how
to do the job.
YOU ASKED FOR
IT, YOU GOT IT
30% of registered voters voted in the last election...not good for people like us........"The Terrible Three" or the 3T'S will be there for a long time, they like to spend (check their voting records) and look at the revenue they either turn away or do away with....dull normals are ruling us!
ReplyDeleteScirocco's too busy ripping up the city streets 1 wk. before Thanksgiving. He'd better pray it doesn't snow!!! DPW is putting in a water main near Price Chopper that should have been done during construction but Skippy The Fees forgot. He's also dipping up his own street Pinewood, & taking care of his drainage problems. I might add, there r NO leaves blowing in the wind there!!
ReplyDeleteJUST DO YOUR JOB SKIPPY has left a new comment
ReplyDeletet's been 12 days since the leaves have been out. Broken bags, leaves all over streets and back in yards, and citizens paying double to have them picked up. We will be collecting the leaves in a caravan of trucks and vans and placing them on the city hall steps. Maybe Scirocco will pick them up. Ya think?
These 3 posts were sent in on the previous article but I thought they were appropriate for this post.
ReplyDeleteCaptain, what happened to items that were in the original agenda posted on the City website Monday regarding the updates of the progress of Scirocco's street improvements and the Washington Street fiasco? They were not on the final agenda and not discussed at the meeting, he only spoke about hiring an engineering firm for a project, I wonder why? The City has 2 high salaried engineers on staff.
ReplyDeleteExactly 4:20 pm
ReplyDeleteWhy do we have two highly paid engineers on staff, and then hire outside engineers?
Same goes for our city "attorneys" who don't seem to be able to take on any legal projects. What do they do all day?
Ever try to call city hall?
ReplyDeleteThe phone menu is a joke. Why do we have to wait to hear all the garbage about calling 911, or call another number for the fire dept?
Even if you know the extension number of the party you are calling, you still need to wait through all the menu options.
How much does the city hall operator get paid? I heard it's about $50,000. I never get the operator and nobody ever picks up the phone in each department. It's deplorable.
They sit right there, and let it go to message, every time. It's a joke.
Times Union, Nov. 29, 2015, pg. A10:
ReplyDelete"Among mid-sized communities in the region, Rotterdam, East Greenbush, and Saratoga Springs have the highest overall crime rates,......."
Police Chief Veitch is quoted as saying "In 2014, Veitch said one group was responsible for numerous robberies when they repeatedly targeted the same drug dealer."
Now isn't that also considered a crime? Veitch is reportedly disliked by the majority of his patrolmen, and there is also resentment for other brass in the department.
How many of his employees have left the department because of their dissatisfaction, and how many recently took early retirements?
Things aren't so rosy for Veitch these days.
This may also be a bad mark for the Commissioner & his Deputy. They have been very secretive about many of the crimes and attacks on citizens since their time in office. However, maybe not you but ' YOU ASKED FOR IT, YOU GOT IT'
DeleteSecretive, as well as arrogant.
ReplyDeleteWaa...Waa...Waa
ReplyDeleteIn 2006 myself and another lady from Pinewood Ave. went to commissioner McTyuge with the result that we had from the neighbors on our street. Sewer had backed up in over 14 houses. He never did anything about it. He sent us backing. So please don't tell us that we never went to City Hall.
ReplyDeletesewer rubbish. We spoke to people on Pinewood Ave. and they nor any of their neighbors had any sewer problems. Let's say you did have problems, Commissioner Skip waited 9 years to fix the problems? Sounds about right.
DeleteI suggest that you talk to the Thomas, Monahan, Stewart, Morris, Eteste Fisher and the new people that Just bought the house, Valentine just to name a few. Guess you didn't tal to the right people. Yes it too 8 years there were places in the City that were worst than Pinewood. There is only just so much money to go around.
ReplyDeleteYou have had a few too many egg No's with brandy you should talk to Dasher, Dancer, Prancer, Vixen, Comet, Cupid, Donner, and Blitzen. You can't change the facts 9 years later and if Pinewood was that bad and there were (worst) places then the DPW could have done their own work on many projects instead of hiring 'out of house'. Then DPW would have had enough money to do 1/2 the City. However, 'YOU ASKED FOR IT, YOU GOT IT'
ReplyDeleteRudolph here, ahem.!!
ReplyDeleteHow soon you forget, I was the one who led them all on that foggy night.
I guess some people have foggy memories.
Merry Christmas Cap.
Thank you and a Merry Christmas to you.
ReplyDeleteDo you think that the City should be in the construction business. I thought that they just did matnance. Does the City have all of the resources to be in the Construction business?
ReplyDelete4:42 pm
ReplyDeleteUnder T.McTygue's and W.McTygue's leadership, construction business was their method of balancing the books. You see, this is the way it works, let's take a walk through the McTygue era.
Tommy would submit a budget proposal, it would get looked at, approved, and then as the year progressed, their personnel expenses were covered by the budget.
But when the construction jobs came along, sidewalks, etc., the labor was covered by the budget, but the homeowners or contractors were billed for the rest of the work...materials, profit, etc. and that was rolled back into the budget and became a slush fund for whatever the Commish and brother needed it for.
Nice Christmas tale. Let's take a walk back in time. So, you say McTygue proposed a budget and it was looked at and approved (by Republicans because as far as I know prior to 2006 there wasn't a Democratic majority), however let's move on.You are right when sidewalks were put in the labor was done by DPW workers and the materials & profit were paid for by the homeowner and/or builder. This way the DPW could have additional workers doing jobs and earning the department money and keeping up employee numbers to get more jobs done and income flowing. Today, we have a Commissioner (Skippy) that will not increase employee numbers, why you ask? Well, he doesn't have enough work for the hired help he has now. He hires outside companies to do the work at a higher cost that the City pays out than what DPW used to do and turn a profit. The City employees 2 city engineer's at a cost of around $200,000.00 + combined and yet he hires outside engineers for small to large projects. As far as profit and slush funds, could there be anything to look at (oh yeah, I think the State is checking into this now) by giving Bonacio a $1,000,000.00 (one million dollar) gift in exempt water hookup fees (City income)? Skippy then changes the section of the Charter and eliminates these fees (City income) and then has the brazen balls to charge 5 contractors water hookup fees after the law was changed.
Delete'YOU ASKED FOR IT, YOU GOT IT'
I understand Skippy just gave two released felons the gift of re-employment. Congrats Skippy, there r so many decent, honest people looking for employment & you continue to hire known drug dealers & physical abusers of woman. Certainly shows what you're about!
ReplyDeletebirds of a feather flock together, saratoga has become home to the dumbest voting block in the state.....when is this stupid city council going to address the Anderson lawsuit which the city LOST and wiped out the phoney greenbelt....2016 will be a bench mark year for this city.
DeleteLook up the word "privatize."
ReplyDeleteWe need more private jobs, fewer city (gummint) jobs. "He doesn't have enough work for the hired help he has now." C'mon man. Too many directors, deputies, assistants, etc. Get the work done by people who really work.
I know what "privatize" means but when you have workers that could be making the City money and you hire it out to the 'private' sector at 3 times the cost it is not a smart move and certainly not an efficient way of running a department.
DeleteI know what "privatize" means but when you have workers that could be making the City money and you hire it out to the 'private' sector at 3 times the cost it is not a smart move and certainly not an efficient way of running a department.
DeleteCaptain what happened to Skippy's newly hired Director? I understand he's no longer employed by the city. Why?
ReplyDeleteDeputy Dawg Donna Buckley thought that he was doing a good job and out shining her and the Skipper.
DeleteNo doubt, but that doesn't take much! I heard they're interviewing for his replacement. Any word on the AG investigation Cap?
ReplyDeleteNo decision has been made yet but remember the State works like molasses flowing in January. I also heard from many attorney's that if the group that sued over the Collimer lot appealed the decision they would most likely win. The feeling is that the judge didn't know many of the specifics he ruled on before he tossed the case and many of his cases in Montgomery County are decided strangely.
DeleteGee, maybe the city attorney(s) could get involved?
ReplyDeleteOh, wait.......they're too busy.
An appeal of the Collamer case would be too much work.
But, as cap says, maybe we should hire another city attorney and then we could have three people sitting around city hall, sipping coffee and looking out the window.
The hiring of this director was a political move on Skippy and Deputy Dawg’s part. Deputy Dawg offered him the job of director two weeks after the papers to primary Skippy were pulled from the Saratoga Board of Elections. He started in late June. All public records, check the dates Captain. After the election Deputy Dawg had no use for the new director as he was no longer a political threat so off with his head.
ReplyDeleteHappy New Year.
You are so right. The Skipper is not as pure as the driven snow that he would like people to think of him as.
DeleteThe problem for Skippy is that the Deputy Dawg keeps turning the snow yellow, and the Comptroller's office is looking at a lot of yellow snow.
DeleteSo......this blog is just an outlet for the Captain to slam Skip Scirocco.
ReplyDeleteI'm bailing.
It's good to see you go. Skippy is one of the worst Commissioner's in Saratoga history, if he isn't giving away one million dollars to a big developer he is hiring more outside help ever. Also remember he rented the Casino out for the 4th of July and First Night, now if that is a freaking dumb thing to do I don't know what is, so adios, ciao, hasta la vista baby, Guten Tag, Auf Wiedersehen, Hamba kahle.
DeleteYou must be a well-travelled affluenza yuppie.
ReplyDeleteAll you had to say was GOOD-BYE.
Not really but if you are 7:31 what the heck are you still doing here. Away with you!
DeleteHopefully the AG has dug deep enough to get the goods on Skippy & Buckley. But the they will put the blame on Engineer Tim Wales for all the kick backs & favors given. Mr. wales would be wise to tell all he knows & has done at Skippy's directive. The Buck (ley) stops at his desk, in his office!
ReplyDeleteThe AG/Comptrollers are still digging and has not yet gotten to the bottom of the garbage. In the end it will be Buckley wearing the silver bracelets, she is the expendable one.
ReplyDeleteHow about reposting an email address so we can send you info?
ReplyDeleteHi and thanks for the question. You can use this forum, no email. You can send me any information you would like and preface it with 'for your eyes only' if you don't want it published. I have to ok any posts on the site before they are put up, so go at it. If you wish to leave your name fine, the info will not be posted if you choose not to.
DeleteFor your eyes only.
ReplyDeleteGood luck, and God bless
J. Bond
great one, thanks.
DeleteSo no name, no post.
ReplyDeleteHow does that work for you Steve Rodgers? We have to leave a name but you do not?
Righto, but you already know my name, Captain America. You don't need a name to post, if you want to send something to me just tell me not to post it. I have to manually click to post to the site so you can still remain anon and the info will be between you and me if you wish.
