SHAUNA SUTTON-DOWD'S ENDORSEMENT

In the Saratogian today Sutton-Dowd has received the paper's endorsement for the office of mayor, this one should come as no surprise.  The paper gives kudos to both candidates and could have gone either way, but it follows the Mayoral picks of the past.  When some of your biggest advertisers are Adirondack Trust, Roohan Realty and Allerdice who not only as I said are big advertisers but also top Republican old timers what can one expect?  In the papers reasoning, the editorial staff gives reasons like negotiating union contracts bringing all but one to completion, when in fact it was one that was signed and the rest have been working without a contract.  The editorial staff also uses the Rec Center as a huge plus for Sutton-Dowd.  The Center may have come in under budget but we know the reasons, (a) inferior materials used, (b) The was not up to code, which cost a building inspector who was fired by Sutton-Dowd after the inspector refused her request to pass the inspection anyway. (c) Sutton-Dowd had promised that after the first year the Center would make a profit, which in fact every year the Center gains a bigger loss than the year before, (d) Sutton-Dowd in her role as top overseer of the Center had it built without any parking or showers needed for the out of town players. This is a great resume to be Mayor of Saratoga and the probable threat of pulling ads from the newspaper by Adirondack Trust, Roohan Realty and Allerdice and others might have been the tipping point for the paper.

  1. I would also like to add that it would be wise to go to the most popullar newspaper in the area, The Times Unnion and look at their endorsement for Mayor of Saratoga. They are not tied into the back room, old guard that the Saratogian is afraid to ruffle.

  2. The connection between Wally Alerdice and Sutton is closer than you think. The owner, Wallace Allerdice, serves on the Board of the Greeridge Cemetery with Sutton. Wally also profits directly from reduced regulation resulting in more building.

    1. You are right. They are the only one of the three I mentioned that did so. It's the advertising dollars they use as leverage.

  5. I find it VERY interesting that at my door step along with my Saratogian I received a yellow flyer from the Sutton-Dowd campaign announcing her Saratogian endorsement. Tell me Barbara & Shaun, how the hell does that happen? I know what it tells me & the rest of Saratogian subscribers. That endorsement was "in the bag" long before Sat. or Sun. Leaves a VERY bad taste in my mouth. I know am certain who'll I vote for mayor!

Then the Sutton-Dowd supposedly didn't complain about the SCDC mailing regarding Sutton's "other job" until this past Sat. & they held a mtg. THREE HOURS after receiving the complaint with FCPC WITHOUT the SCDC being present to present their side. How suspicious is that? The topper? The bold headline in today's paper. Sutton-Dowd is desperate!

  6. and now Sutton is crying fowl over a disparaging mailer about her but isn't she the one who masterminded the bogus and unfounded flyer that she and Scott lifted from that law breaking blogger regarding Brent Wilkes two years ago?

    1. Is she talking to the Congress Park ducks or something? Someone should tell her they can't vote.

  7. Shauna is & always has need a "dirty player". Seems she's also showed Skippy how to play the game. Got a flyer in the mail today bragging he's the first Commissioner to hire an Arborist, & he's telling the truth for once. What he's NOT telling you??? He & his Deputy Tim Cogan DEMANDED that same arborist to chop down a HEALTHY Oak tree because the resident promised him FIVE VOTES!!! Thank God the Arborist is true to his profession & has not as of yet "killed" a healthy tree!

  8. How desperate the Republicans are shows in their "latest" ad in the Saratogian where they all PROMISE not to use Saratoga Lake as a drinking water source?? First of all, NEVER say NEVER!!! Second: Bill McTygue NEVER even mentioned using the Lake. Seems David Bronner & his "friends" have Bill confused with Tom!! Another LIE by the desperate Republicans. All to re-elect the worst DPW Dog Catcher Saratoga has ever had to accept.

  9. El Capitano. The Times Union has a long and storied track record of endorsing Democrats, even when they're train-wreck candidates. Case and point: Valerie Keehn. Them endorsing Yepson was fait accompli, especially when their reasons for endorsing her are considered.

  10. Horatio, no posts about the elections. I will post them tomorrow as it is election day. I will say you may be right about the TU just as the Saratogiian is the extreme opposite. However, your examples are dead wrong. Again I'll post tomorrow and thiis will make sense to those who read it.
